Race 8 – Magnetic Is to The Strand 2021
October 24, 2021 @ 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Free – $60Magnetic Island (Nelly Bay) to the Strand (long course) will be the final Paddle Series race for 2021. A sweet paddle that takes advantage of the seasonal winds to push you across Cleveland Bay to the Strand (Tobruk Pool/Sailing Club) and our end of year presentations. For those less adventurous the short course will provide an out and back option from the Strand. Please ensure you read the logistics for this event very carefully!
Long Course
We start from Nelly Bay (Briefing at 1:50 pm, Race start at 2:00 pm). We have negotiated a special walk-on price with your boats to get you to Maggie with Magnetic Island Ferries; $15.50 for your trip just in, JOEL IS SHOUTING TRIP to the start, so no need to book! Ferry details are below in the logistics so PLEASE READ THEM CAREFULLY and take careful note of times and logistic requirements (super important!).
Short Course
Your start and finish is on the Strand (Tobruk Pool/Sailing club). Race briefing will be at 2:45 pm and race start at 3:00 pm. This will be the last chance to get a taste of ocean racing for 2021 so if you haven’t had a go yet this would be a great opportunity to try it out.
Race and Series Presentations will be held at the Sailing Club from 5pm. Bar will be open and food & soft drink provided. Come and celebrate the 2021 paddling season. Families welcome. RSVP ticket above for catering.
Logistics
Ferry cost: Free
Catch 1: There are only 25 spots available
Catch 2: You must travel on the 1:00 pm barge
Clint Robertson Paddle Clinic: If you are participating in the paddle clinic and wish to register for the race please use the free code “Magpaddlecamp” to ensure we are not including you as a ferry booking.
Super important stuff!
Try and pair up with another paddler if you require assistance to get your boats onto the barge and from barge to race start as quickly as possible please.
On the barge: boats at the back end of ferry so we get you off rapidly. Get yourself as prepared as you can to start the race while transiting to Maggie. Make sure your hydration/nutrition is sorted and ready to race (i.e. already in your pfd if that is how you carry it). We NEED to get you from the barge and onto the water as quickly as possible please. There will be a very short briefing before race start and we expect all paddlers to be ready to take to the water immediately the briefing concludes please. You should be fully prepared, pfd on, etc., during the briefing. There are some tight time restrictions we need to adhere to and must get this race underway on time please. Note, about 10 minutes to get from barge to briefing!
Any equipment you need to have returned to the mainland (e.g. padding material) should be dropped into Joel’s trailer as you go past. The trailer will be amongst the vehicles waiting to board the 2:00 pm ferry to Townsville (the one you just disembarked from!). No time to mess about if you need anything carried back for you.
